Regenerative Land Management

AN INTEGRAL PART OF

THE WIDER ECOSYSTEM

At Las Cumbres Ranch we consider ourselves land stewards. We work daily on the many aspects of Holistic land Management and regenerative grazing practices. By managing the movement of cattle on our rangeland and allowing the land to rest for a year or more between grazings, both perennial and annual forages fully express themselves thereby increasing biodiversity. Holistically planned regenerative grazing considers not only the condition of the cattle but also the condition of the soil, the plants, and the wildlife. Regenerative planned grazing imitates the grazing patterns of ancient migrating herds.

Holistic management and regenerative grazing reduce greenhouse gasses through the absorption by plants of the excess carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and storing it back into the soil where it becomes a useful nutrient for the many microbes living in the soil.

ANIMAL WELFARE

RELIEVING STRESS

Stress is a physiological response to physical, mental, or emotional stimuli which raises cortisol levels in the body. Long term exposure to stress lowers the body's immune system capabilities and leads to a host of negative effects. This has enormous implications in livestock production. If animals are stressed, animal performance and profitability suffer.

MOVING TOGETHER IMPROVES WELLBEING

A band of wild mustangs and burros moves alongside our herd of cattle. Research shows that cattle gain more weight when grazing with equines, as mixed herds naturally stimulate healthier pastures. Different types of grazers benefit both the animals and the land, creating balance across the rangeland. At Las Cumbres Ranch, we ensure that there is always enough forage for the migrating wildlife that shares this landscape.

LAS CUMBRES RANCH CATTLE

The natural instinctive behavior of cattle is to roam and graze. We shepherd our cattle from pasture to pasture, at their natural pace which keeps our animals at ease. Minimizing stress in our cattle allows us to provide the healthier and better tasting beef. Las Cumbres Ranch beef is antioxidant rich, nutrient dense and is high in omega 3s. Our cattle are raised without the use of antibiotics, steroids, or added growth hormones.

BREED CHARACTERISTICS

Las Cumbres Ranch Cattle are medium framed, with smooth, red to brown coats. They are heat tolerant and tick resistant, early maturing, with high fertility rates and easy calving. They move in a tight herd creating intense animal impact which is essential for restoring soil biology and fire mitigation in dry environments. Our cattle's ability to eat both brush and grass makes them ideal for restoring California rangeland.
